IMO - Maritime Security - Focusing on Security: The International Maritime Organisation has prepared a background paper on maritime security. The paper is titled IMO 2004 - "Focus on Security". It covers a variety of subjects including, its history, ISPS Code - how it works, ship's security officer - the role of the Master, port facilities - their control and compliance, responsibilities of government    more .....

Foreign Crews Working in NZ - The Guild has for some time being pursuing with NZ Government the issue of foreign crews being employed on NZ ships with resultant loss of job opportunities and training. The Guild has already identified Immigration (follow the links) and training as issues for Government to look at and has called for full up to date data to be gathered to allow a full  investigation into issues facing coastal shipping. Fatigue/Sleep Induced Accidents - The Swedish Maritime Administration has completed a study concerning collisions and groundings in which fatigue/sleep has shown to be of great or decisive significance. The International Maritime Organisation's Marine Environment Protection Committee report on this study is available for download    more .....
Training in the Maritime Industry - This paper has been submitted to the Ministers of Transport and Economic Development.  It was prepared by the Guild on behalf of industry representatives who participate in the Government's Coastal Shipping Forum    more .....
Part 90 Maritime Rule (Pilotage) - The final rule is currently being prepared for issue. Following further consultation there are several changes to the final draft which are being considered. The new rule should be inplace by the end of 2009  or early 2010
Risk Protection Plan - Medical Loss of licence is of concern to members. The Guild has developed an income protection insurance proposal with  assistance from Willis Insurance Broker and NZOS with premiums for the core package payable by employers. MNZ - Qualification and Operational Limits Review - Maritime New Zealand is undertaking a major review of the qualification and operation limits rules. Review staff are travelling the country and holding meetings with those in the maritime industry to obtain feedback. The proposed new rules will be available next year for consultation
