To obtain qualifications for most sea-going positions you need to have sea time under the command of a qualified master or skipper

If you hold a Foreign-Going license, you must maintain professional competence by re-validating your seagoing license every 5 years. Refer to NZ Marine Notice 06/1999 and the ITF publication STCW 95: A Guide to Seafarers for more information

Short courses for revalidation of sea going licenses are available through The New Zealand Maritime School, Manukau Institute of Technology

Courses for Coastal, Fishing and Small boat certificates can be completed at the NZ Maritime School or local Polytechnics
