Sea-Going Qualifications

To obtain qualifications for most sea-going positions you need to have sea time under the command of a qualified master or skipper

Re-employment

If you hold a Foreign-Going license, you must maintain professional competence by re-validating your seagoing license every 5 years. Refer to NZ Marine Notice 06/1999 and the ITF publication STCW 95: A Guide to Seafarers for more information

Short courses for revalidation of sea going licenses are available through The New Zealand Maritime School
, Manukau Institute of Technology

Courses for Coastal, Fishing and Small boat certificates can be completed at the NZ Maritime School or local Polytechnics
