Objects

The objects of the Guild as provided for in its constitution are:

  • To watch over and help promote the interest and welfare of members with regards to conditions of employment and to seek by all reasonable means to effect a proper understanding between employers and members of the Guild
  • To help in reforming any abuses which may exist in the conditions of employment of members
  • To provide legal assistance for members who may meet with accident or mishap
  • To affiliate with National or International organisations which advance the professional and general welfare of the members.
  • To provide welfare benefits for members and their dependants
  • To exercise all powers and obtaining of all and any benefits due to members under prevailing legislation
  • To participate in the training and education of members

Services

The Guild offers the following services to its members:

  • Affiliation to the NZCTU and ITF
  • Arranging and providing representation at mediation hearings
  • Assisting with Welfare and Other Legal Entitlements
  • Legal Representation in Employment hearings where appropriate
  • Legal Representation for Accidents and Mishaps where appropriate
  • Negotiating, advising on, and enforcing collective and individual employment agreements
  • Providing Career and Employment Contacts
  • Representation and lobbying government ministries and departments on behalf of members
